In the accommodation where we have been staying in Kampala, there is a very steep incline from the road to the gate, which makes both the entry and exit very entertaining indeed. After the staff meeting Pastor Okumu, who chairs the board of AOD, stayed with us overnight in order to drive us to Mbale for the weekend.
Of course, the three stooges and I had to make a little light of the drive - fasten your seatbelt, if any sudden changes to altitude... Oxygen masks etc. Okumu pulled the car back, asked us to sit in the car to help the weight to traction ratio (we just think he wanted moral support), and after revving the engine, we launched forward up the drive, without so much of a wheel spin.
It's quite a drive to Mbale, even with the better roads, and having stopped off to see a school developed by an old friend of Pastor Okumu's we then also stopped at the shell garage before Iganga for the 'best beef samosa's in the world', and they were.
After Iganga it was a quick turn left to the new (12 yrs old) road to Mbale. We arrived around 3pm to stay in the mid-range Mount Elgon Hotel. After an evening meal (2 hours from order to delivery) we caught up with Pastor Okumu, Sarah, Mercy and Billy Paul, then retired for the evening.
Tommorrow Ant-hill.....
